Methods and Activities
Introduction/Lecture
- 1. The class will begin with going over the syllabus, letter to the parents and the student interest survey.
- 2. When this is complete, I will give a PowerPoint presentation about pinch pots, symbolism and Navajo Wedding Vases. I will do examples as I go through the presentation.
- 3. The students will have a small chunk of clay to practice with me as I do the examples.
Homework/Design
- 1. I will assign the homework – create a symbol and make 4 sketches of their pot – and give them the rest of the period to work on it.
- 2. The homework will be due before they begin building their pot, so they will have until the end of the period to complete it. When they are finished with their homework they may begin working on their actual project.
Work days
- 1. The students will have 2 weeks to finish their pot. During any down time the students will be working on their mug project with Mr. Young. They will have 2 weeks to finish both assignments.
Finishing/Critique
- 1. The students will write down 2 complements and 1 constructive criticism for each piece of art in the class and we will then share them with the artist.
